THE PROBLEM WE FACE

The United States has experienced a notable decline in the number of Volunteer Firefighters over recent years.

VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS AS OF 2024

676,900

As of 2024, the U.S. has approximately 676,900 Volunteer Firefighters, a figure that has remained relatively stable since 2020. This number represents a significant decline from the 1980's, when there were nearly 900,000 Volunteer Firefighters (SOURCE: National Volunteer Fire Council). Considering that volunteers comprise 65% of all firefighters nationwide, this decline poses challenges for fire departments, especially in rural areas that rely heavily on volunteers for emergency response.

How We Help

Stopping the decline of Volunteer Firefighters is critical to maintaining the safety, resilience, and well-being of communities across the United States. It’s not just about maintaining fire departments - it’s about protecting lives, property, and the very fabric of our communities. By recruiting, supporting, and retaining volunteers, we ensure that help is always available when it’s needed most.
