The Yampa Fire Protection District serves a community of 942 full-time residents, along with numerous visitors, across a vast area of 389 square miles. This district primarily encompasses rural, mountainous regions characterized by expansive ranches and public lands. Located in the southernmost part of Routt County, Colorado, Yampa shares borders with Rio Blanco and Garfield counties. The district is responsible for initial responses to incidents that can only be accessed from within its boundaries and has established mutual aid agreements with other fire districts in Routt County, as well as Rock Creek Volunteer Fire to the south and Grand County to the east.
The mission of the Yampa Fire Protection District is to safeguard lives and property from the dangers of fire, medical emergencies, and hazardous conditions. The district is dedicated to caring for and serving both the local community and its visitors. They strive to achieve optimal outcomes for those in need by employing advanced fire suppression and rescue techniques, and they take pride in offering Advanced Life Support (ALS) for medical emergencies.
